We are committed to evaluating opportunities and climate change risks as part of our acquisitions due diligence process, to investing in proven sustainability practices and technologies during the ownership of our properties and to enhancing asset value while improving environmental performance.


What we've done

  • We establish long-term investment plans for all of our assets. Where feasible, we incorporate building systems, equipment, and technologies that improve efficiency and conserve natural resources.
  • From 2015 - 2018, we invested $210 million in energy and water saving initiatives that are expected to provide nearly $30 million in annual savings from projects including LED lighting, in-room energy management systems, water saving fixtures and efficient boilers and chillers.
  • Used certified green or recycled products, EPA ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances and fixtures and EPA SmartWay certified logistics to increase sustainable sourcing and delivery for our design and construction projects.

Featured Initiatives

Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

The expansion of the new exhibit hall was completed in 2016 and achieved LEED® Silver Certification in October 2017. Sustainability features include clear, low-e glass; high-efficiency chiller and HVAC systems; low-flow water fixtures; water efficient landscaping; LED lighting; and energy efficiency standards that exceed California Title 24 Building Code requirements by 24%. During the course of the project, the hotel participated in the San Diego Gas & Electric’s Savings By Design Program, which encourages high performance design and construction projects that showcase economic and energy efficiency. The hotel received the 2016 San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Champion of the Year Award for Hospitality for its commitment to finding new and innovative ways to be sustainable and energy efficient while still maintaining its high standard of guest experience. The property’s other initiatives include an active Green Team, food composting and recycling on site and an e-waste center for employees.

Axiom Hotel

The hotel received LEED® Silver certification and includes sustainability features such as filtered water stations on each floor, SMART TVs in guestrooms that provide information and in-room dining menus to reduce paper waste, and a comprehensive recycling program.

Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport

The hotel was awarded a rebate from Pacific Gas & Electric for a series of sustainability investments including the modernization of all elevators, high-efficiency chillers with free cooling and an in-room energy management system. Additionally, we installed high-efficiency boilers and LED lighting throughout the hotel, upgraded the roofing system and guestroom HVAC.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

This is the first resort in Hawaii to achieve LEED® Silver EBOM status. We integrated innovative technologies and best-in-class sustainability practices such as state-of-the art guestroom energy management systems and heat recovery equipment, solar photovoltaic rooftop systems, low flow water fixtures, non-turf landscaping, a weather-based irrigation system, digital media and signage and a comprehensive guestroom recycling program. A self-guided walking tour for guests features educational placards that highlight the resort’s sustainability efforts. In recognition of these initiatives, Hyatt Regency Maui received the Hyatt Thrive Leadership Award for excellence in Environmental Sustainability in 2016.

Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel and New York Marriott Marquis

On-site steam boilers were installed to remove the hotel from the city utility steam system, saving utility costs and reducing carbon emissions intensity by at least 20%.
